iPod Install GuideA big part of the reason I wanted the iPod was the front controls, interface, and because I could install it in my Passat. It isn't a cheap endevour, but this way it runs directly out of my stereo and looks clean and professional. First, this is the part list, in case you are trying to do this yourself: (Refer to picture 1)
Next I had to dremel out part of the Proclip to get the cables through to the front from behind the HU. To remove the head unit, I actually just went to dealership.
It took the tech like 1 minute, including grabbing the keys (Refer to picture 2). For the ground on the Blitzsafe, to avoid a ground loop problem, I tapped into the ground on the wiring harness (thick brown wire). For the power, I found an old cigarette adapter, and spliced it into the power. For ground, I also used the one mentioned above. For power, I went with the unswitched 12V source, which is the Red/Blue wire diagonal from the ground. (Refer to picture 3 for taps) There is plenty of space behind the Climatronic to store all of this, but getting the wires back up through the "6th switch" hole ended up being more complicated than I planned. The head unit takes up the entire cubby, with no room even for two small wires to get past. Luckily, at the very end of the lower area, where the console ends (behind the passenger side) there is an area where it meets with the section that the 6th switch goes behind. We "fished" for the dock head, and were able to bring it back up, as you can see in the picture (Refer to picture 4) And finally, here is the finished product!! (Refer to pictures 5,6,7)
